From the 15th of December, Peru will take another step forward in its process of reopening to tourism, as flights over eight hours will once again be authorized on arrival and departure from the country.

After seven months of isolation, and falling numbers of tourist visitors to the level of the early 2000s, Peru had started since October a gradual reopening of its international tourism. First, by authorizing trips of a maximum duration of four hours, which has allowed the arrival of flights from some neighboring countries. Then in a second step from November with the extension of air connections to a maximum of eight hours, which made it possible to serve almost all the markets of the Americas.

On the 15th of December, the country will take its final step in resuming air connectivity with the opening of its borders to international flights of more than eight hours, announced the new Minister of Health Pilar Mazzetti.

This step, which was the subject of constant demand from the country’s tourism industry, will allow the routes to Europe, which were interrupted in March, to resume. Transport Minister Eduardo González gave more details and confirmed via Twitter that the first authorized flights will connect Lima with Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris and London. The Minister added that all current health protocols will continue to apply including the screening of passengers arriving in Peru from foreign countries.

For her part, the Minister of Health added: “By taking the precautions of the previous tests, of the affidavit on arrival in the country of destination and of the follow-up for 15 days, we are protected to avoid the inconvenience” .
