In the heart of Colombia, Cali stands as a vibrant tribute to the country’s cultural diversity and rich history. Nicknamed the “Salsa Capital”, this city in the Valle del Cauca is an exuberant blend of musical rhythms, colonial architecture and living traditions.

A lively and colourful historic centre

Cali’s historic centre, declared a national monument in 1959, is a veritable open-air museum, where history and culture blend harmoniously. The Plaza de Cayzedo, the vibrant heart of the city, the church of La Ermita in striking Gothic style, and the Jorge Isaacs theatre, a jewel of the French neoclassical period, are not to be missed. The Parque del Gato, with its colourful cat sculptures, the most famous of which, El Gato de Tejada, has become a symbol of the city, and the San Antonio district, with its cobbled streets and colourful colonial houses, offer magnificent views and an immersion in local architecture and life.

Salsa: rhythm and passion in Cali

Cali is world-renowned as the capital of salsa. Salsa schools abound, and dance parties in the city’s clubs and streets are the rhythm of the nights. The World Salsa Festival and the famous Feria de Cali in December are highlights, attracting the best dancers, musicians and amateurs from all over the world.

Unique experiences

The city’s captivating museums include the Museo del Oro Calima, which exhibits an impressive collection of art and crafts from pre-Columbian cultures. Outside the city, the Parque Nacional Natural Farallones and the Hacienda El Paraíso – immortalised in the novel “María” by Jorge Isaacs – offer escapes into nature and history.

Gastronomy: A blend of flavours

Cali’s cuisine, with its diverse influences, is a feast for the senses. Empanadas vallunas, arroz atollado and sancocho de gallina are specialities to be savoured. Gourmets will love the local sugarcane-based desserts and the refreshing cholado.

Cali is a lively and exciting experience. It’s a city where every step along its historic streets, every note of salsa in the air, every bite of its rich cuisine tells a story. Cali isn’t just a place to visit, it’s a place to live, feel and dance, inviting you to immerse yourself in the vibrant soul of Colombia.
