Chile launches a promotional campaign for sustainable tourism
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider color=”#ffffff” _builder_version=”4.16″ height=”15px” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_divider][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.19.4″ text_orientation=”justified” global_colors_info=”{}”]
In line with global trends where tourists are demanding more sustainable products in their travels, Chile‘s Undersecretariat of Tourism and Sernatur have launched the campaign “Chile, impulsando un turismo sustentable” (Chile, promoting sustainable tourism). This campaign seeks to raise awareness in the tourism industry of the opportunities for developing sustainable and inclusive offers.
The fact is that 53% of consumers on metasearch engines such as Booking say they are more concerned about sustainability after Covid-19, 81% define sustainability as a priority in their future travels and 83% even say they would like to spend at least one stay in an ecolodge.
In order to cater to this growing niche of travellers, tourism authorities are inviting tourism service providers to commit to sustainability, thus helping to position Chile as an attractive destination for a more environmentally and community conscious segment of tourists.
The Undersecretary for Tourism, Verónica Kunze, stressed that: “For the sector, sustainability is a key issue. It should be remembered that around 63% of foreign visitors say that the main reason for coming to Chile is to enjoy the landscape and nature, so the protection of this heritage is vital. Hence the importance of accelerating profound transformations in the way tourism services are operated, not only to understand that sustainability adds value to the business, but also to move towards a tourism developed according to sustainable and inclusive criteria”.
For his part, the national director of Sernatur, Cristóbal Benítez, stated that: “The campaign not only invites us to become aware of the latent need to reposition ourselves around sustainability and to respond to a new demand for sustainable services, but also calls for action and the adoption of good practices that favour the consolidation and increase of a sustainable offer that can already be distinguished thanks to Seal S and the Certificate of Sustainable Commitment”.
The campaign, in addition to spreading the benefits of implementing good sustainable practices, will also aim to encourage travellers to adopt more sustainable and responsible behaviour during their stay.
