The Guatemalan Institute of Tourism – INGUAT – is celebrating its 55th anniversary this October. The institution was created on October 6, 1967, in accordance with Decree 1701 of the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala, with the aim of promoting tourist activity in the country.

The institution is a public and decentralised entity. One of its main objectives is to promote Guatemalan tourist destinations in priority and potential markets through international fairs, positioning the brand in potential markets.

Some of the tourism segments or products offered by Guatemala, Amazing and Unstoppable, which are part of the promotion of the country are: Nature, Adventure, Sports, Meetings, Languages, Volunteering, Health and Wellness, Weddings and Honeymoons and Cruises.

INGUAT currently has under its administration: The Handicraft Market, located in Zone 13 of Guatemala City; the San Felipe de Lara Castle, located in Izabal and the Ing. Roberto Woolfolk Saravia Museum of Paleontology and Archaeology, located in Estanzuela, Zacapa.

According to data from INGUAT’s Market Research and Analysis Department, between January and August of this year, 1,132,366 foreign tourists entered Guatemala. This figure is equivalent to an economic recovery of 65% compared to the periods before the pandemic.
