The number of passengers transiting through TocumenInternationalAirport, Panama’s main hub for air connections between the Americas, between May and June 2021 increased by 24.9% for a total of more than three million passengers between January and June, according to an official report from the airport’s management company.

The most recent statistical data published on the Website of Tocumen,S.A. show a sustained recovery in operations and passenger traffic for four consecutive months, as COVID-19 vaccination progresses in the main destinations in North and South America that are connected to Panama.

During the month of June, a total of 751,219 passenger movements were recorded. This represents an increase of 149,941 passengers compared to May 2021.

The regions that recorded the highest passenger movements in June were: North America with 41%; South America with 40.4%; Central America 8.9%; the Caribbean region 6.7% and Europe 3%.

“The reactivation of airlines, the increase in weekly frequencies and destinations in recent weeks are instilling optimism in the entire sector; however, we must continue to focus on a systematic and balanced recovery from an operational and financial point of view,” said Raffoul  Arab,Managing Director of Tocumen International Airport.

Some of the most recent developments include the restart this week of Air Europa’s biweekly operations from Madrid, the increase to five weekly frequencies of Turkish Airlines flights between Panama and Istanbul and the airline Copa which has already reactivated routes to 58 destinations.

Tocumen Airport currently offers direct connections to 65 cities in 31 countries in America and Europe, thanks to 19 airlines. “Trade concessions have been reactivated at 98%, which is an important indicator of concessionaire confidence,” Arab said.
