The biosecurity protocols issued by the Peruvian government during the COVID19 pandemic, and which involve the tourism sector, have been evaluated and approved by the World Travel and Tourism Council (W.T.T.C.).
On October 13th, Peru received the ʺ Safe Travels ʺ label issued by the World Travel and Tourism Council. This international recognition was received by the President of the Council of Ministers, Walter Martos, and the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Rocío Barrios, at a ceremony held in Cusco.
As a reminder, the W.T.T.C. has created the label ʺSafe Travelsʺ with the aim of contributing to the responsible and safe reopening of tourism, once the local authorities have determined that the conditions are in place.
GOVERNMENT COMMITMENT TO THE SECTOR
Minister Rocío Barrios stressed the importance for Peru to have obtained the ʺSafe Travelsʺ label, which shows that the Peruvian government is fully committed to the tourism sector and its reactivation, and that these protocols allow the country to have world-class health safety standards related to tourism.
“Tourism is the economic activity that has suffered the greatest blow during the coronavirus pandemic. For this reason, and for its reactivation, we want to offer visitors the best possible travel experience, with quality tourist destinations and services that adhere to strict biosafety protocols. We have the commitment of both the public and private sectors. “, said the minister.
It is important to mention that, from now on, every region of Peru will be able to apply for the use of the ʺSafe Travelsʺ label from the Ministry of Tourism (Mincetur) and the Tourism Training Centre (Cenfotur), which will evaluate its award.
The certification ʺSafe Travelsʺ to Peru was carried out by videoconference in which the President and CEO of the W.T.T.C., Gloria Guevara Manzo, participated. She stressed that Peru is considered an excellent international travel destination and indicated that the main objective of the label is to regain the trust of visitors.
“I would like to congratulate Peru for being one of the most important destinations in the world to obtain the W.T.T.C. label. I wish them the best of luck in this recovery process,” she said.
For this Safe Travels ceremony, the Regional Governor of Cusco, Jean Paul Benavente, the Mayor of the District of Machu Picchu Pueblo, Darwin Baca, the Vice-Minister of Tourism, Carlos Benites, the Executive President of Promperú, Luis Torres, the President of the National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR), Carlos Canales, the President of the Regional Chamber of Tourism, Carlos Milla, were present. The Japanese citizen Jesse Katayama, who became the first tourist to enter Machu Picchu since its closure, was also present.
