The Uruguayan Ministry of Tourism has announced an agreement with Iberia, whereby an ambitious promotional campaign will be carried out to promote this South American destination in the various destinations that Iberia operates in Europe.

Among the actions that will be carried out to achieve the objective of better positioning Uruguay as a must-see destination in Latin America, videos about the country will be shown on the entertainment platform available during Iberia flights, there will be a presence in Ronda magazine and actions will be carried out on the different social networks, among others.

“Uruguay is a key market for Iberia and this agreement only confirms our company’s commitment to the country. At the beginning of this year we have already managed to recover all the capacity we had before the pandemic and we are even above the figures for 2019, which shows that this country has significant interest and levels of demand on both sides of the Atlantic”, said Víctor Moneo Ocaña, Iberia’s Director of Alliances and Strategic Agreements.

For his part, the Uruguayan Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, highlighted the work carried out with the company, which has allowed the number of frequencies in the country to be increased and consolidated. “Iberia is the entry point to the European market and our country is working intensively in promotional fairs. On the other hand, starting to advertise and promote the company’s flights will position our country and may generate the arrival of new tourists, not only from Europe but also from other continents.”

Uruguay now has a daily flight to Europe

The connection between Montevideo and Madrid is one of the routes that has benefited from Iberia’s renewed commitment to Latin America by 2023. Specifically, since January of this year, it has begun operating a total of seven weekly frequencies, or one daily flight, a level of capacity that will be maintained for the rest of the year.

In this way, Iberia has not only recovered the daily flight it began to offer in the last months of 2019, before the start of the health crisis, but in 2023 it will exceed the capacity it had before the pandemic, allowing travellers from Uruguay to connect to over 100 destinations in Europe.

Iberia operates the route between Uruguay and Spain with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, with a capacity of 288 passengers: 19 in business class and 269 in economy class, making more than 156,000 seats available per year.
